Sauna with Children

Sauna with Children
Please read this information carefully and follow the guidelines for bringing children. Saunas can be enjoyable for kids with a few basic rules.
Is it safe for my child to have a sauna?
- As long as the child is monitored carefully, both inside and outside of the sauna, it can be an enjoyable experience to sauna with your child. It is important to be aware that younger children do not tolerate heat as well as adults because their thermoregulatory and circulatory systems are still developing. By the age of 7, children are more likely to manage heat stress, by sweating (they do not sweat as adults do).
- Keep in mind that children may not be able to tell you how they are feeling.
- We will ask you to sign a waiver form before entering the sauna to confirm you have read and understand this guidance of bringing children to the sauna and that you take full responsibility for looking after them whilst on site.
Booking Rules
- Children can attend private sessions only.
- 1:1 adult to child ratio for all children under between the ages of 7 to 16 years of age.
Visit Rules
- Children should never be left unattended.
- It is very important that a responsible adult observes how a child’s body is responding to the high temperatures and is aware of signs of discomfort such as dizziness, headaches and feeling too hot. If there are any signs of discomfort child and responsible adult should leave the sauna immediately.
- As the stove is very hot and would cause severe burns if touched or fallen against, it is very important the child sits furthest from the stove.
- For insurance reasons, children are not allowed to use the cold-water showers. However, water for splashing face and body will be provided to aid cooling.
- Children are not allowed to add water to the stove because of the risk of burning from the steam rising.
- Please do not bring children in the sauna who have an infection or fever.
Recommendations
- Children can use the water provided to splash face and body or stay outside the sauna for a good period of time to aid cooling.
- Children should be encouraged to drink plenty of water/ juice during their session, to maintain their body’s water content.
- During their first visit, children should limit time in the sauna to a 2-5 minutes and take regular breaks.
